The hotel holds a solid 3.5-star rating, reflecting its balance between affordability and convenience. Comfortable beds, ample pillows, and effective air conditioning ensure restful nights after days spent touring. While bathrooms are compact and somewhat dated, they maintain a commendable level of cleanliness. Some guests note quirks such as a need for multiple flushes, but these minor inconveniences are outweighed by the overall value.

The communal space, including access to utensils and a microwave, adds an element of practicality for longer stays or solo travelers seeking flexibility. Technology enhances convenience here as well, with phone-based room and building access streamlining the guest experience.

For travelers on a budget who prioritize location over luxury, this hotel strikes the right chord. It is especially recommended for solo adventurers eager to dive into Barcelona’s elegant streets, posh restaurants, and designer stores.

In summary, Barcelona City Hotel (Hotel Universal) embodies the essence of a functional city-center hotel: clean, comfortable, friendly, and well positioned. This hotel was as expected. It is in a great location. I will say reception was great and super helpful. The room itself was small but the beds were comfortable and they provided three pillows per person which was awesome. There was an AC that kept the room at a comfortable temperature. The bathroom was small and you may need to flush a few times. There is a community area with utensils, a microwave, etc. that came in handy. There is no elevator so walking up and down the stairs can get a little tiresome. It’s exactly as described so I can’t say anything bad about it.

I enjoyed my stay here. The staff were very friendly and spoke really good English! The hotel is in the center of the city and just a few steps away from the Gaudi building. I definitely recommend, especially for solo travelers .

You have to understand the character of the place to judge it properly. It is located strictly in the tourist centre of the city. It is clean, the beds are fine, the personnel is helpful and nice, you get access to the building and room via your phone. It is very comfy. It is cheap. Yes, the walls are thin, but who cares. If you look for a cheap room in a city centre to take a shower and sleep well just to leave for the whole next day to sight see it's a place I highly recommend.

Rooms were very clean, the bedroom was as shown in booking however the toilet was very small and old but overall clean. The receptionists were amazing. Breakfast for 6 euros/night was fine but very basic, next time I will book without it. For 60 euros per night was extremely good.
